Special Education is that component of Education which involves special instructions, methodology (Remedial Instruction), instructional material, learning aids and equipment to meet educational needs of the children with academic and socio-emotional challenges.
The main goal of Special Education is to provide equal opportunities, full participation, independent living and economic stability to disabled children. Some of the most common special needs that young children are diagnosed with are: speech or language delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, cognitive delays, social and emotional disorders, and learning differences/disabilities.

PURPOSE OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
Special Education serves a sheer variety of purposes such as:-
PREVENTION, if a person with differences or disabilities is diagnosed at a young age, it is easier to prevent him from further damages. Prevention is designed to bridge the learning gaps from becoming a disability.
REMEDIAL or an attempt to reduce the effects of disability.
COMPENSATORY It enables successful functioning despite disability.
SPECIAL EDUCATION- It is individually planned as every child is unique. Besides, It is goal-directed and intensive.

THE BASICS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION PROCESS UNDER IDEA
STEP 1 :- Child needs individual assistance in academics or special instruction
STEP 2 :- Child is referred for evaluation
STEP 3 :- Eligibility is decided
STEP 4 :- Child is found eligible for services
STEP 5 :- Child is referred to a Clinical Psychologist or any mental Health professional
STEP 6 :- Formal Assessment is done by a Clinical Psychologist
STEP 7 :- The psycho educational report is shared with family and school
STEP 8 :- The special educator develops the I.E.P or Individualized Education Program and goals with parents or services are discussed.
STEP 9 :- Process and progress is measured and communicated with school
STEP 10 :- A revised I.E.P is kept to keep in mind progress and shortcomings.
